This Wednesday at noon the Malkin/Trybeck Duo (mezzo-soprano & guitar) appear in a free performance in Glendale, and on Friday evening the USC Classical Guitar Department offer a recital by their stellar alumni, also free. Then on Sunday afternoon the Da Camera Society present the Brasil Guitar Duo as part of their recital series in historical sites; a third performance at 6:00 PM has just been announced, call soon if you're interested in attending. This week got busy and is heavy with duos. The Los Angeles Guitar Duo of Amy Hite and Monica Cremona appear twice, first on Wednesday in a free performance for the Ventura County CG Society in Camarillo, then again for the Long Beach CG Society on Saturday. Also on Saturday the AlmaNova Duo offer one of their lovely flute/guitar recitals in LA, and Martha Masters, the USC-trained GFA winner from a few years ago performs at Trilogy Guitars in Playa del Rey. Then on Sunday evening the Brasil Guitar Duo offer a free performance at the LA County Museum of Art with a simultaneous webcast. I haven't yet had a chance to hear them, but they've gotten some pretty compelling reviews. The only event this week is the Guitar Circle's monthly meeting Saturday evening at Chapman. It's a Showcase Recital, come to meet and socialize with your fellow guitar aficionados and enjoy their playing. And there's plenty of time for you to reserve a slot to play at the March or April Showcase by contacting James Chiang, it's a great opportunity to hone your performance skills in front of a friendly and knowledgeable audience. I'm a bit late getting started in the new year, but I'm pleased to let you know of two free events this weekend. On Saturday evening our esteemed Guitar Circle President Jeff Cogan will appear with the La Mirada Symphony performing Rodgrigo's "Fantasia para un Gentilhombre". Then on Sunday afternoon Adam del Monte performs his new concerto with the Santa Monica Symphony. Any performance by Adam is a treat, whether he's showing off his skills in flamenco or classical, and there's a dance performance one hour before Sunday's concert, also free.
